The new time schedule is set for Storm Lake High School. In an effort to use idle time in an effective manner, the 45 minute lunch shifts will be reduced by 10 minutes each. The time will be put back into the classrooms and allowing for more clean-up time between the two lunch shifts. As a result of the new time schedule the regular school day will be extended by 5 minutes. The new time schedule will as follows and will go into affect on November 8th.

We feel this change will save valuable time with the least amount of disruption to students daily schedules. Students will follow the exact schedule they have since school started. If students had lunch during the first lunch shift they still do. With the Elementary and Middle school extending the school day, after school busing will not be affected with the change. If anyone has any questions please respond to the posting or give me a call at the high school. Thanks.

Schedule Change at SLHS.
There will be a slight schedule change at SLHS beginning November 8th. Students daily class schedule will not be affected in any way. What is being considered is adding 2 additional minutes to each academic class. The time will come from reducing the lunch periods by 10 minutes. Lunch periods are currently 45 minutes long. Data suggests that all students are through the lunch lines with at least 20 minutes remaining in the period and all students are finished with their meals with 10 or more minutes before the next class period. The new schedule will also build 15 minutes between the 2 lunch shifts allowing for the cafeteria to be prepped and cleaned. Time is such a valuable resource it is felt that the 10 minutes of idle time at the end of lunch periods should be used more effectively in the classroom.
There is a possibility that this change school could also extend the school day 5 minutes. This would help with the climate of the building and the long wait students have for the buses to arrive at the high school. We know that a change in the middle off the semester may not be the best thing but we feel strongly that this change is good for students and good for Storm Lake High School.
